Position Summary:

The Product Manager provides business vision and features for an “agile release train” (50 – 125 people in a team of teams) to regularly deliver value to customers and help grow the business. Uses market research, user research, business strategy, and related skills to collaborate with others to define and prioritize roadmaps, features, and releases. Aligning the train vision and priorities in order to achieve the desired ROI through collaboration with customers, business leaders, technical leaders, and any others who are critical to the process.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops and refines the vision, roadmap, and features for the solutions provided by their agile release train by understanding customers, competitors and potential disruptors, industry trends, solution/product use,  and solution/product performance.

  • Communicates the vision, roadmap, features, priorities, and results for the agile  release train. 

  • Builds an energetic, engaged, and effective team of product owners who will collaborate to deliver value to customers.

  • Collaborates with peers, system architects, release train engineers, product owners, and business leaders to guide and deliver value to customers. 

  • Negotiates with stakeholders and members of the agile release train about scope, priorities, and potential approaches

  • Identifies and supports running experiments to learn and then influence the next steps.

  • Use lean and agile principles and practices to decompose large solutions into features that provide incremental value. Defines a successive set of minimal viable products that test assumptions and translate learning into actions. 

  • Provides feedback to agile teams as they are building solutions/products to ensure building the desired outcomes.

  • Collects, analyzes, and uses data to drive decisions related to features, priorities, staffing and other areas as needed. This includes defining key performance indicators, leading indicators, and other types of measures as well as working with agile teams to automate the related data collection. 

  • Makes and/or facilitates decisions to rollout strategies and  go-to-market timing, change management activities and marketing.

  • Owns relationship with 3rd party applications/vendors. Critical advocate of GFS business needs, understand the third party roadmap and influences it.

  • When necessary involved with contract management (monitor contract dates, adapt license needs, google alert for security related issues)and looping in legal and finance

  • Leads and contributes to communication, marketing, and training activities to support adoption and use of solution/products.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • Establish and maintain trusting relationships with diverse stakeholders both inside and outside of the company

  • Excellent listening and communication skills both written and verbal

  • Comfortable speaking to large groups (over 100 people)  and able to tell a story to explain the vision and to put work into context 

  • Use principles of lean and agile  product development to guide the definition and prioritization of features and to manage the backlog 

  • Understand the big picture and strategically optimize solutions for the whole rather than a specific silo 

  • Collaborate closely with product owners, system architects, business leaders, SMEs, and everyone on an agile release train 

  • Collaborate with others to identify incremental experiments to guide larger decisions in complex situations 

  • Able to accept that some experiments will not return the expected results and use that as a learning opportunity 

  • Encourage others to propose ideas, run experiments, and fully contribute to solutions and problem solving 

  • Define key performance indicators- especially leading indicators – to measure business outcomes driven by the agile release train’s releases. 

  • Use data to influence decisions about vision, near-term priorities, and investing in various solutions. 

  • Able to create graphs, models, pictures, etc. help visualize work and the impact of outcomes is a plus 

  • Is assertive; able to say “no” to stakeholders in order to maintain vision, work-in-progress limits, priorities, or other needs

  • Able to respond to changes in a dynamic business environment and live with various degrees of ambiguity

  • Able to influence and negotiate honestly with others
