USDA Commodity Specialist

Position Summary:

Manages the School Commodity Management Application(CMA) system by managing USDA commodity items, customer entitlement, and vendor information.  Supports the Bid Analyst by providing commodity information at the item and vendor level. 

Essential Functions:

  • Loads and maintains the Commodity Management Application (CMA)  and Product Acquisition application to ensure the customer capability to purchase commodity products to ensure compliance with state requirements.

  • Locks customer pricing on awarded commodity bid items in the CMA system and validates the vendor sales agreements.

  • Supports the pricing for commodity items on commercial bids by providing the Bid Analyst with commodity item information, vendor information, and pricing strategy.

  • Initiates new item setup in GFS Product Acquisition and enters cost into GFS Cost application for USDA Commodity items.

  • Loads and maintains vendor information in the CMA system and initiates vendor setup in the GFS Product Acquisition system.  Resolves failed transactions with the vendor through third party verification systems.

  • Maintains the CMA system to ensure entitlement balances from third party services are properly loaded and product inventory is properly received and released in the CMA  system.

  • Manages aspects of product inventory including warehouse transfers, monthly storage fees reporting, and force shipment of product.

  • Provides reporting to GFS Vendor Receivables Department and external vendors for deduction payments.

  • Subject matter expert for USDA Commodity industry and supports USDA Commodity questions and concerns

  • Interacts with Sales, Procurement, Traffic, Transportation, and other GFS departments, State Departments and external GFS customers.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must have the ability to multi-task, prioritize and be able to work independently or within a team environment.

  • Must be accurate and have special attention to detail.

  • Must be able to clarify and process legal requirements, have good computer skills and mathematical aptitude.

  • Must understand pricing logic.
