Position Summary:

Provides strategic leadership and vision for supply chain management and inventory control at Gordon Food Service. Ensures the performance of supply chain processes across the distribution network and its alignment with Gordon Food Service goals.  Collaborates with Divisions and provides critical thinking, subject matter expertise, and directs resources related to logistics and supply chain management. 

Essential Functions:

  • Oversees supply chain AOP/LRP development and aligns with divisional/corporate goals, including the evaluation and recommendations for scorecard targets, KPI’s and significant capital expenditures

  • Strategically leads and executes key Supply Chain functions including demand forecasting, divisional/chain replenishment, reverse logistics, strategic dynamic sourcing, freight bracket savings and inbound network optimization. 

  • Strategically manages end-to-end inventory optimization to ensure performance within our distribution network, including analyzing and managing  inventory capacity, inbound efficiency (including planned transfers), inventory levels, SKU profitability, slot management, and cost to serve.

  • Collaborates with Marketing and Merchandising Services leadership to develop new and innovative solutions to meet the needs of the divisions.

  • Works with the Chief Supply Chain Officer to develop effective organization structure, staffing and workflow 

  • Manages department staff, including interviewing, hiring, training and retention of staff.  Conducts performance monitoring, initiates follow through with disciplinary action and termination. Mentors, motivates, and develops staff and serves as a resource.

  • Regularly visits Divisions to collaborate, assess performance and generate ideas; collaborates  and partners with Stores.

  • Develops key performance metrics and regularly assesses performance against such metrics

  • Creates and maintains supply chain “Best Practices” aligned with internal / external requirements

  • Evaluates and determines significant capital expenditures

  • Continually evaluates and ensures the department organization aligns with corporate organizational structure

  • Evaluates, researches, recommends and approve business technology direction and tool selection

  • Develops and approves logistics compensation scales and incentives

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Supply Chain Management – knowledge of principles and methods for moving goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits

  • Inventory Optimization – balancing fill rate, inventory turns and spoilage

  • Demand Forecasting – Ability to use sophisticated analytics to develop predictions 

  • Understanding of logistics manning and workflow

  • Vision – ability to determine what the impact of future events will be and how to respond in a timely manner.

  • Human Relations – ability to work in teams, interact with others across departments/roles, develop relationships, etc.

  • Administration and Management — Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.

  • Business Acumen – intuitive and applicable understanding of the financial, profitability and cash drivers, external environment, and the “big picture” of the business to enable good, quick business decisions.

  • Relationships – Builds strong, collaborative relationships with the Divisions.

  • Self Management – self directed with ability to deal with distraction, repetition, prioritization, fluctuations in workload, ambiguity, etc.

  • Mathematical – knowledge of basic math (addition, subtraction, multiply, divide and percentages) and inventory metrics.

  • Communication – superior written, verbal, organizational and communication skills.

  • Time Management – ability to multi-task, prioritize, and execute efficient work processes.

  • Customer Service – knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

  • Problem Solver – ability to problem solve and develop solutions to a variety of complex problems by comparing, classifying, innovating, analyzing, coordinating, copying, etc. May refer to established precedents and policies.

  • Influence

  • Subject matter expert on GFS Logistics applications, processes and techniques
