Gordon Food Service is hiring an Business Manager – Imports and Commodities. Provides strategic vision to maximize market opportunities to increase margin, sales, and case volumes for both internal and external customers.  Achieves desired business results for the NA Imports and Commodities team including value/profit analysis, market analysis, pricing analytics and risk management.  Leads new business development as a primary source of sales and margin growth. Leads a team of Logistics analysts and or buyers regarding all aspects of inventory and replenishment which may include Import/Export and transportation. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provides vision and understanding of core financial trends and performance metrics related to margin, earnings, expenses, sales volume, R.O.N.A., etc and business acumen for assigned categories.

  • Provides price strategy adjustments based on understanding changes in business practices, Global market conditions, industry environment, competitor’s pricing strategies, currency markets, regulatory and legal systems, and customer needs.

  • Works directly with the divisions, chain accounts, and outside customers to drive new business development and make key commodity decisions.

  • Collaborates with the sales team and outside customers to identify target customers, introduce new products and diversify our customer portfolio in other segments (Retail, Industrial, non GFS Food Service). 

  • Builds and leverages strong vendor relationships in meeting divisional needs.

  • Interviews, hires, trains, and retains staff.  Conducts performance monitoring of staff, initiating follow-through with disciplinary action and termination in consultation with Human Resources when appropriate for the department.  Mentors, motivates, and develops staff and serves as a role model and resource.

  • Promotes an environment of cultural diversity.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Ideal candidate will have:

  • Maintains a working knowledge of commodity markets and the factors impacting cost including forecasting models to implement and recommend appropriate strategies.

  • Ability to implement price strategy adjustments based on understanding changes in business practices, market conditions, industry environment, competitor’s pricing strategies, currency markets, regulatory and legal systems, and customer needs.

  • Proficient analytical skills to analyze and interpret data related to industry trends, pricing, margin performance, customer needs, etc. 

  • Strong negotiation skills.

  • Knowledge of interest/storage and RONA Calculations. 

  • Must have excellent written, verbal, organizational and communication skills as well as problem solving capabilities 

  • Must have the ability to multi‐task, prioritize and be able to work independently or within a team environment.

  • Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail 

  • Ability to Build Direct Relationships will all employees – motivating, inspiring, coaching, and creating an open door environment; exhibits servant leadership.

  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations and speak to customers both internal and external (Retail, industrial, Food Service). 

  • Ability to efficiently evaluate the costs of transportation, services and inventory in multiple currencies and countries.

  • Working knowledge of national and international import/export legislation and must be able to effectively troubleshoot any issues that may arise in international freight transportation.

Experience:

  • Bachelors degree required Business, Agri business, Logistics, Procurement

  • Five or more years previous commodities, risk management, or procurement experience.  Possess a deep understanding of complex buying cycles, Markets or international import/Export experience.

Location:

  • 1300 Gezon Pkwy, Wyoming MI 49509

  • Hybrid Schedule 3 days in office 2 days remote

  • Monday to Friday

  • 8 am to 5 pm
