Gordon Food Service is hiring an Payroll Analyst. This candidate will provide provide support for Payroll-related projects.  Has knowledge of payroll functions and assists with questions, training and coverage, as needed.  Responsible for all payroll tax functions, including timely setup of jurisdictions, proper tax remittance, and accurate and timely review and creation of W2/T4 data.  Creates standard and ad hoc payroll reporting and ensures all payroll-related general ledger accounts are reconciled.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for payroll tax compliance and timely response to tax agency notices. 

  • Performs monthly, quarterly, and year-end wage reviews and reconciliations to ensure accurate tax withholding.

  • Maintains annual W-2/T-4 calendar of events and completes tasks by established deadlines to ensure timely and accurate creation and amendments of W-2s/T-4s for GFS employees.

  • Prepares tax incentive schedules, ensuring data reported is accurate and timely.

  • Timely setup of tax jurisdictions.

  • Maintains all tax locations within the payroll system and completes all BSI tax updates as appropriate.

  • Provides support, performs testing and guides programming changes for system upgrades/modifications and other Payroll-related projects.

  • Reviews weekly payroll output and handles payroll processing exceptions.

  • Reviews and balances 401k/RRSP deductions and sends reporting to Financial Services.

  • Responsible for tracking and processing payroll responsibilities surrounding  company trips and other taxable events.

  • Responsible for processing Benefit Restoration and Deferred Compensation processing.

  • Responds to employee inquiries via phone, fax, and email in a timely manner.

  • Performs special payroll runs and ad hoc reporting.

  • Establishes format and reconciles monthly general ledger accounts, assisting others with balancing issues. 

  • Provides support and coverage for other members of the Payroll Team.

  • Assists in training of new payroll team members.

  • Documents and maintains all payroll procedures.

  • Processes moving expense reimbursements.

  • Prepares payroll journal entries.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Strong problem-solving and customer service skills..

  • Developed math aptitude and strong understanding of accounting principles, payroll taxes and government payroll regulations.

  • Communication and interpersonal skills needed to represent the department and speak at minor functions.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills necessary to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and complete them under pressure.

  • Display strong presentation, change management, facilitation and collaboration abilities.

  • Detail oriented and accurate.

  • Strong team player.

  • Knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, email and internet software applications.

  • Knowledge of 10-Key calculator.

  • Experience with basic office machines (computer, fax, phone, etc.)  

  • Workday software experience helpful, but not required.

  • ADP and BSI experience helpful, but not required.

Experience:

  • ​Typical experience for this position is a bachelor’s degree plus 3 or more years of relevant payroll experience.  If no degree, then 7 or more years of equivalent experience may be accepted.  Payroll certification preferred but not required.

Adherence to the company’s hybrid work policy is an essential function of the Payroll Analyst position.  The policy is subject to change, and employees will be required to adhere to those changes as a condition of their continued employment.

  • 1300 Gezon Pkwy, Wyoming MI 49509

  • Hybrid Schedule 3 days in office 2 days remote

  • Monday to Friday

  • 8 am to 5 pm
