The Food Safety Distribution Operations Specialist is responsible for performing a number of key duties critical to ensuring Gordon Food Service North American distribution operation’s compliance to regulatory, customer and internal quality and food safety expectations.  Develops, maintains and executes policies, procedures and work instructions for distribution operations-related activity and ensures updates are adequately communicated to stakeholders. Leads the execution, tracking and follow-up of distribution center audits (Corporate Internal Audit, 3rd Party, Regulatory Compliance, Customer Compliance, etc.).  Executes DC Food Safety Assessments on-site and/or virtually at Gordon Food Service Distribution Centers to support ongoing compliance to internal, customer, and regulatory expectations.  Leads the onboarding of Gordon Food Service acquisitions and new distribution centers to operations-related standard food safety and quality programs and unique customer requirements.

Essential Functions:
  •  Develops, maintains and executes food safety policies, procedures and work instructions for distribution operations-related activity. Ensures updates are adequately communicated and accessible to stakeholders.  Responsible for maintaining the FSQA Homeplate Site(s).   

  • Supports the execution, tracking and follow-up of distribution center audits (Corporate Internal Audit, 3rd Party, Regulatory Compliance, Customer Compliance, etc.). 

  • Executes DC Food Safety Assessments on-site and/or virtually at Gordon Food Service Distribution Centers.  Supports ongoing enhancements to DC Food Safety Assessments to ensure continuous value.

  • Supports the training, execution, and compliance monitoring of food safety programs within the distribution centers Maintains Gordon Food Service’s Food Safety internal websites.

  • Leads the onboarding of Gordon Food Service acquisitions, new distribution centers, and new distribution food safety personnel to operations-related standard food safety and quality programs and unique customer requirements. Responsible for executing specific registration and licensing of new facilities as applicable (e.g., FDA Facility Registrations,  CFIA Licensing).

  • Supports response to customer RFPs and/or contract reviews as it relates to distribution operation capabilities.  Responsible for supporting operations in the implementation of operations-related customer requirements upon award of new business. Notifies, consults, and supports affected stakeholders as appropriate.

  • Acts as the Food Safety Council Lead; plans and executes monthly calls and ongoing touch points.  

  • Provides ongoing phone and email support to distribution operations in reviewing, interpreting, and acting on policies, procedures and work instructions.

  • Supports the organization’s epidemic and pandemic preparedness and execution plans, as assigned.

  • Responsible  for the training, execution, and compliance monitoring for the FDA FSMA204 regulation. Provides long term ongoing responsibilities and support.

  • Utilizes food safety reporting and KPIs to drive continued process improvement, program development and compliance. 

  • Acts as a Recall Coordinator, on a rotating basis, executing product recalls both during and after business hours and on

weekends.  This includes managing the entire recall process, from product isolation to customer communication, in addition to any follow-up communication with regulatory agencies.

  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned.  

  • Five years minimum of previous quality assurance, food safety and/or foodservice distribution operations experience is highly preferred
