Gordon Food Service takes pride in delivering seamless order processing and delivery to our customers; our warehouse staff is the backbone of our success. As a 2nd Shift Receiving Checker, you’ll play a critical role in the receiving process by unloading GFS goods from delivery trucks, transferring them to the designated receiving area, and ensuring each item is accurately identified. You’ll validate quantities against the bill of lading and may apply identifying labels to maintain product accuracy and flow.

Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to receive and inspect incoming goods. Unloads packed goods from delivery trucks onto the dock. May use a forklift to move pallet loads. Verifies items and quantities against bills of lading or shipping documents and records any differences.

  • Must be able to identify and manage damaged products. Inspects boxes, removes damaged items, takes required photos, updates the system, and handles returns according to load type (prepaid or collect).

  • Must ensure pallets are labeled, scanned, and accounted for correctly. Completes RF Screens 7 and 11 when required. Tracks all pallet types (bad, rental, etc.) and fills out header tags completely.

  • Must keep work area clean and communicate effectively. Performs daily housekeeping tasks and works closely with teammates, drivers, and freight handlers to report overages, shortages, and damages.

  • Must be flexible and perform other tasks as assigned to support the receiving process.

  • Prior warehouse experience required

  • Must have basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Position Summary:

Receives Gordon Food Service (GFS) goods onto dock from delivery trucks and transfers to the receiving area. Properly identifies GFS items, validates received quantities against bill of lading. May be required to apply identifying labels.

Essential Functions:

  • Receives packed goods from delivery trucks onto the dock area.  May use forklift to move pallet loads (based on warehouse operation).

  • Checks goods received against bills of lading or other shipping documents for proper item and quantity received.  Documents variances in the receiving process.

  • Inspects boxes for damage. Photographs and removes all damaged cases and updates the receiving system.

  • Inspects pallets for damage.  Photographs damaged pallets and removes from service.

  • Removes unnecessary wrap from pallets and transfers to the internal warehouse receiving area.

  • Returns damaged product on prepaid load to truck and puts damages on collect loads on hold for return to vendor.

  • Ensures pallets are labeled correctly and all pallet tags are scanned. May be required to complete RF Screens 7 and 11 for completion in designated divisions

  • Required to properly account for all ballets: bad, rental, ets. in receiving device and Ensures that Header Tags are completely filled out

  • Completes housekeeping activities on a daily basis.

  • Communicates with teammates, drivers, freight handlers  regarding GFS process, overages, shortages, damages, etc.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.  

  • Must be able to work independently or within a team environment.  

  • Must adhere to all safety regulations and procedures.  

  • Must have basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  

  • Solves routine problems of limited scope and complexity following established policies and procedures.

  • Employees in all warehouse positions must be able to immediately perceive auditory warning signals such as bells, alarms, and horns that are used to warn employees of the start-up, movement, or approach of equipment (including forklifts, turrets, overhead cranes, conveyors, trucks, and other equipment operated inside or outside the warehouse), mechanical abnormalities, and similar risk situations during warehouse operations.

Equipment / Tools / Technology:

  • Must be able to understand and operate the basic functions of a Radio Frequency handheld computer.

  • PIV equipment (based on warehouse operation)

  • Manual hand tools

  • Personal computer

  • Internet, email, and other applications

Educational & Experience Requirements

Preferred

High School / Equivalent

Certification or License

Powered Industrial Vehicle (PIV) certification must be obtained upon hire and maintained during employment

May be required based on warehouse operation
