Gordon Food Service released the first edition of the Annual Stewardship Report today, a report which outlines the environmental and social investments made by the company throughout the 2013 fiscal year.
In 2009, Gordon Food Service developed the foundation of this report, the Stewardship Statements of Direction. These statements were designed in response to the growing interest in sustainability from customers, employees, vendors, and the communities serviced by the company. The Stewardship Statements of Direction are comprised of three main goals – ensuring corporate sustainability, minimizing environmental impact, and promoting social responsibility.
Jim Gordon, Gordon Food Service Chief Executive Officer, says, “This Stewardship Report intends to inform all of our employees, customers, and communities on our performance in these areas. This is the first in what will be an annual progress update. Stewardship is a journey, not a destination – so we always will be striving to do more and be better.”
The report highlights the environmental responsibility of the company by recognizing the most significant and recent steps taken to minimize environmental impact. This includes the significant effort and investment of the Gordon Food Service Home Office to accomplish this goal. Also emphasized in the report is the social responsibility of the company. Some of the significant steps taken over the last year encompass the areas of product safety, local purchasing, overall employee satisfaction, as well as diversity and inclusion.
Also highlighted is Gordon Food Service employees’ involvement in the communities we serve, such as fundraisers for local charities, food donations, and contributions to disaster relief causes around the world. “Taking care of what we have been blessed with and passing it on to those who come after us embodies the Gordon family philosophy.” Gordon says, “Stewardship is defined as “the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care.” We believe the planet has been entrusted to all of us to safeguard for future generations.”
