Gordon Food Service Opens New Distribution Center in Imperial, Pennsylvania

Gordon Food Service today held a grand opening celebration at its 420,000-square-foot distribution center in Imperial, Pennsylvania, 16 miles west of Pittsburgh. Attending the event were Lance Chimka, Regional Director of the Governor’s Action Team; Bob Hurley, Director of Allegheny County Economic Development; Gordon Food Service Ohio Valley Division Assistant General Manager Mike Arnold; and Gordon Food Service Chairman of the Board Dan Gordon. In addition, several state and local officials, and Gordon Food Service customers and employees, were present. The distribution center began shipping in May and now employs 200 people. The company expects to employ 300 people within three to five years.

Dan Gordon added, “We are excited about what this new facility will bring to the community, and we look forward with great anticipation to the growth prospects it represents. The efforts of our outstanding Gordon Food Service sales, transportation, and warehouse teams have given us the opportunity to build this facility to serve our current and future customers in this area.”

Gordon Food Service continues to expand its distribution network to serve its growing base of customers. With Imperial’s attractive business climate and proximity to customers, this distribution center helps position the company for future growth in the northeast region.

The company serves customers from 24 distribution centers in North America. The 16 distribution centers in the U.S., including the new Imperial facility, are located in Grand Rapids (2) and Brighton (2), Michigan; Kenosha, Wisconsin; Springfield, Ohio; Imperial and Pottsville, Pennsylvania; Taunton, Massachusetts (doing business as Perkins); Aberdeen, Maryland; Shepherdsville, Kentucky; Houston, Texas (doing business as Glazier Foods), and Coppell, Texas; Douglasville, Georgia; and Miami and Plant City, Florida. Another distribution center is under construction in Kannapolis, North Carolina. There are eight distribution centers in Canada.
