Gordon Food Service, North America’s largest family-controlled broadline foodservice distributor, announced today that it will open a new distribution center in Aberdeen, Maryland before the end of the year. The facility will serve foodservice operators in the Baltimore, Washington DC, and Philadelphia areas. The company signed a long-term lease agreement for 242,000-square feet of space within an existing distribution center. The facility is expected to employ approximately one hundred fifty people within the first three years of operations.

“We are excited to add the Aberdeen location to our distribution network. This facility is in a prime location for us to continue to grow our business in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States,” said Jim Gordon, CEO of Gordon Food Service.

“We welcome Gordon Food Service to Maryland and look forward to working with them as they grow and create jobs in our State,” said Dominick Murray, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development. “Maryland is ideal for foodservice distribution, offering an outstanding transportation infrastructure, central location to all major East Coast cities and overnight trucking access to one-third of the U.S. population.”

Gordon Food Service currently operates 22 distribution centers in North America. The Aberdeen facility will be the company’s fifteenth distribution center in the United States. The distribution centers in the U.S. are located in Grand Rapids (2) and Brighton (2), Michigan; Kenosha, Wisconsin; Springfield, Ohio; Shepherdsville, Kentucky; Greenville, South Carolina; Pottsville, Pennsylvania; Plant City and Miami, Florida. Another distribution center operating as Perkins is located in Taunton, Massachusetts. Distribution centers operating as Glazier Foods Company are located in Houston and Coppell, Texas. Two distribution centers are currently under construction including one near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and another near Atlanta, Georgia. Both are expected to be operational in early 2015. Eight distribution centers are located in Canada.
