Gordon Food Service today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Red Diamond Foodservice, a division of Red Diamond, Inc., headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. The transaction is expected to close in the next 90 days. Following the acquisition, Red Diamond’s broadline foodservice customers will be serviced from Gordon Food Service’s distribution center in Douglasville, Georgia.
Red Diamond Coffee and Tea will continue to be owned by Red Diamond, Inc., providing quality coffee and teas across North America and the Caribbean. President and CEO Bill Bowron said, “For a number of years, as Red Diamond has grown its business, we have found our company increasingly competing in foodservice with the very distributors to whom we sell our coffee and tea products. The sale of the foodservice distribution allows us to concentrate on the continuing expansion of Red Diamond’s coffee and tea business across North America and the Caribbean.” Bowron added, “Gordon Food Service is strategically the best possible fit for our foodservice customers and employees.”
“Gordon Food Service has become North America’s largest privately held foodservice distributor by offering a comprehensive array of products and services backed by state-of-the-art operations and outstanding people”, said Rich Wolowski, CEO of Gordon Food Service. He added, “These are exciting times for us as we expand our business in the southeast region. We expect a seamless transition as both family-held companies have a similar approach to operations and serving our customers.”
