Gordon Food Service announced today that it will open a new distribution center in Kannapolis, North Carolina. The company signed a long-term lease agreement for a 300,000-square-foot distribution center located in Afton Ridge Business Park on Glen Afton Boulevard. Construction of the facility will begin later this fall and is scheduled to be complete in fall 2015. The facility is expected to employ approximately 275 people within the first five years of operation.

“We are excited to add the Kannapolis location to our distribution network,” said Jim Gordon, CEO of Gordon Food Service. “The addition of this facility increases our capacity to serve national concepts, Group Purchasing Organizations, and independent foodservice customers in the Southeast region of the United States.”

As the foodservice industry continues to evolve, Gordon Food Service is well positioned for growth. The new facility in North Carolina supports the company’s long-term strategies to expand and to continue supporting its customers’ increasing needs.

“Gordon Food Service is a world leader in foodservice distribution,” said North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory. “This fourth-generation family-managed business will feel at home here in North Carolina and we look forward to seeing them grow in the future.”

Said Kannapolis Mayor Darrell Hinnant: “We are pleased to welcome Gordon Food Service as the newest member of the Kannapolis Business Community. With their location in the Afton Ridge Business Park, they will be able to successfully expand their operations into North Carolina. For over 100 years the family company has built a solid reputation of excellence, and that makes them a perfect addition to our City.”

Gordon Food Service currently operates 22 distribution centers in North America. The Kannapolis facility will be the company’s 16th distribution center in the United States. The distribution centers in the U.S. are located in Grand Rapids (2) and Brighton (2), MI; Kenosha, WI; Springfield, OH; Shepherdsville, KY; Greenville, SC; Pottsville, PA; and Plant City and Miami, FL. Another distribution center operating as Perkins is located in Taunton, MA. Distribution centers operating as Glazier Foods Company are located in Houston and Coppell, TX. A distribution center in Aberdeen, MD will be operational later this year. Two new distribution centers are under construction, including one near Pittsburgh, PA and another near Atlanta, GA.
