Gordon Food Service announced today that it plans to build a new distribution center in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The proposed site for the company’s new 480,000 square foot distribution center is East of I-94 and South of 38th Street in Kenosha County. Construction is scheduled to begin this Summer with a projected start-up in Spring, 2010. When the building is at full capacity, the distribution center is expected to employ over 300 full-time employees, most of whom will be Wisconsin residents.

In making the announcement, Gordon Food Service President Jim Gordon said, “We are excited about this expansion to our distribution network and creating a physical presence in Kenosha. We chose Kenosha because of the attractive business climate, the opportunity to further our geographic growth, and the proximity to our many loyal customers in Wisconsin and the greater Chicago area.”

“I am delighted to welcome Gordon Food Service to Wisconsin,” said Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle. “Gordon Food Service is a well-known industry leader, and we look forward to a long and successful partnership with the company.”

The Kenosha facility will be the company’s tenth distribution center in the United States and its first in Wisconsin. Currently, Gordon Food Service operates distribution centers in Grand Rapids (2) and Brighton (2), Michigan; Springfield, Ohio; Shepherdsville, Kentucky; Greenville, South Carolina; and Ocala and Miami, Florida.

Gordon Food Service, founded in 1897, is North America’s largest family-owned and managed broadline foodservice distributor.
