Entering any public space means risk. Continuing the use of tablets, smartphones and watches as part of the dine-in experience is not a big leap.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Industry giants are paving the way.<\/strong> As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/business\/starbucks\/starbucks-will-reopen-85-percent-of-its-coffee-shops-but-with-new-protocols\/\">Starbucks reopens<\/a>, it is introducing contact-free protocols, including mobile app ordering and touch-free payment options.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Consumer expectations are set.<\/strong> Although some places <a href=\"https:\/\/ny.eater.com\/2020\/1\/23\/21078518\/nyc-cashless-ban-restaurants-dos-toros-by-chloe\">prohibit cashless payment only<\/a> models, offering it as an option appeals to some customers. A poll shows an increase in <a href=\"https:\/\/today.yougov.com\/topics\/consumer\/survey-results\/daily\/2020\/05\/04\/0de7b\/1\">&nbsp;consumers using cashless payments <\/a>in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>How does contact-free dining work in my operation?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Virtual wait lists. <\/strong>If not mandated, social distancing will remain a concern for guests. Setting up an online sign-in process allows customers to be seated on arrival, eliminating the wait area inside your business.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Digital menus.<\/strong> Place a QR code that can be scanned at the table for access to the digital menu. When the meal is finished, there\u2019s no awkward exchange of cash or using credit cards that require using pens and handling receipts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Are there other advantages to contact-free dining?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Quicker table turns.<\/strong> Guests get up and leave when the meal is finished, allowing the restaurant to seat the next person on the virtual wait list. Adding just a few table turns matters when capacity is limited.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reduced labor. <\/strong>Contact-free dining rooms can reduce the need for as many front-of-house servers taking orders and processing payments.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Data collection.<\/strong> When customers sign in through email or by phone, you have the ability to contact them with special offers.
