Champions 12.3, a global coalition working toward United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, reports that <a href=\"https:\/\/champions123.org\/2018\/06\/25\/release-the-business-case-for-reducing-food-loss-and-waste-catering\/\">caterers saved $6 for every $1 invested in waste reduction<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The research found both financial and non-financial data as the result of studying food waste-reduction efforts from 86 foodservice sites in six countries. The sites included corporate facilities, restaurants, hospitality, schools and universities and government facilities.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"chart showing financial benefits of reducing food waste\" data-align=\"center\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"cac58aec-71dc-4597-8097-8d98521c8335\" src=\"https:\/\/gfs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IU-Winning-Food-Waste-Benefits_0-1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The financial benefits were only part of the picture. It cites a long list of indirect savings and strategic motivators:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Attention to waste regulations&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Improved environmental sustainability<\/li>\n<li>More food security&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Better stakeholder relationships&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Stronger brand recognition&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>A sense of ethical responsibility&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To achieve food-waste reduction, participants employed simple methods any operator could try:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Measure food waste<\/li>\n<li>Engage staff&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Reduce food overproduction&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Repurpose excess food &nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your results may vary, but reducing food waste is an opportunity any organization can try, with the goal of achieving
