Having a clean, and maintained, cooler and freezer will keep your foods at their freshest points.<\/p>\n<h2>Storing Cold Food Safety Tips<\/h2>\n<h3>Cooler and Refrigerator Tips:<\/h3>\n<p>The items stored in your cooler or refrigerator should be produce, dairy products, ready-to-eat foods, meats, condiments, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Keep your cooler at 35 \u2013 38 degrees to keep foods at 41 degrees or below. Be aware to not overstock your cooler, as it may prevent air flow.<\/p>\n<h3>Freezer Tips:<\/h3>\n<p>Make sure your freezer is working properly; this is very important since food must be thrown away if not kept frozen solid. Remember to never thaw and refreeze foods, as this can lead to foodborne illness.<\/p>\n<p>Keep your freezer between 0 to -10 degrees. Also, defrost your freezers regularly so they operate efficiently.<\/p>\n<h3>General Cooler and Freezer Tips:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Schedule regular maintenance to ensure correct temperatures<\/li>\n<li>Monitor food temperatures regularly by randomly sampling the temperature of food items<\/li>\n<li>Check temperature of units at least twice per day<\/li>\n<li>Check thermometers regularly for accuracy<\/li>\n<li>Consider cold curtains to maintain temperatures<\/li>\n<li>Use open shelving \u2013 do not line shelves<\/li>\n<li>Clean shelves, walls, and floors frequently<\/li>\n<li>Clean up spills and leaks right away to stop contamination of other foods<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Nutrition Resource Center, a team of registered dietitians and certified food-safety professionals at Gordon Food Service, offers many <a href=\"https:\/\/gfs.com\/en\/products\/food-safety.page?&amp;utm_source=storing_cold_foods&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_content=food-safety-tools-and-resources&amp;utm_campaign=blog\">food safety tools and resources<\/a> for customers.
