RECALL: Sunglow Unsalted European Style Butter Blend

Ventura Foods has issued a recall on Sunglow Unsalted European Style Butter Blend (16953 SNG) because it may contain undeclared soy lecithin.

The recall is limited to product number 16953 SNG, Unsalted 1lb individually wrapped print, 36 units per case (product packaging photos enclosed). The product was manufactured in Albert Lea, Minnesota between 9/7/17 and 11/2/17 and distributed nationwide.

The affected lot numbers, that are located on the cardboard shipping case and embossed on the inner parchment wrap, are as follows:

  • MMAR0618 and 03.06.18
  • MMAR1218 and 03.12.18
  • MMAR2018 and 03.20.18
  • MMAR2218 and 03.22.18
  • MMAR2718 and 03.27.18
  • MAPR0318 and 04.03.18
  • MAPR1018 and 04.10.18
  • MAPR1718 and 04.17.18
  • MAPR2418 and 04.24.18
  • MMAY0118 and 05.01.18

To date, no illnesses related to this product have been reported. The trace amounts of soy lecithin contained in the product is not likely to cause adverse health consequences. However, people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy run the risk of severe or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that a product containing an undeclared allergen, soy lecithin, was distributed in packaging that did not indicate the presence of soy lecithin. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging processes. The error has since been corrected.
